Four quick tells for which one you have.
Rat: large and heavy, 16-40 cm with the tail. Mouse: small and slender, with oversized ears.
Rat: thick and scaly. Mouse: thin and hair-fine. It's the fastest giveaway.
Rat: dark, shiny, rice-grain size or bigger. Mouse: tiny, scattered in larger numbers.
Mice explore and nibble everywhere. Rats are cautious and stick to set routes with greasy rub marks.
Remove food and shelter, seal gaps, and run an ultrasonic deterrent — it works on both.
