Clean Mouse Droppings Safely

Never sweep or vacuum. For heavy infestations or attics or crawl spaces full of droppings, arrange professional cleanup.

CDC guidance

Air out the space

Open doors and windows for 30 minutes before cleaning. Leave the area meanwhile.

Wear gloves and wet thoroughly

Wear rubber or plastic gloves. Spray droppings until very wet with an EPA-registered disinfectant.

Soak before wiping

Wait 5 minutes or follow the disinfectant label. Wipe up with paper towels.

Bin towels, then clean surfaces

Put used towels in a covered garbage can emptied regularly. Mop or wipe surfaces with disinfectant.

Wash before and after removing gloves

Wash gloved hands. Remove gloves, then wash hands with soap and warm water.

After rodent exposure

If you feel unwell, contact a doctor promptly and tell them about the exposure.
